The new HYPERTURN Series 2

Second Generation of Success

The HYPERTURN 645/665 and Hyperturn 690 have become absolute best-sellers in the EMCO portfolio since their introduction in 2003.

In particular, the PowerMill versions of both HYPERTURN models with a powerful milling spindle instead of an upper revolver have been selling very successfully. No wonder - the machine is a nearly perfect fusion of modern turning and milling technology. It can handle highly complex parts in just a single process including those with high turning content. The HYPERTUN QuickMill has been no less well received. In this variant, the upper revolver is equipped with a B-axis, so it is continuously adjustable up to 45 degrees. Milling power is, of course, significantly lower than in the PowerMill. However, the HYPERTURN QuickMill shines, with great flexibility and productivity. Whether turning or milling, the upper revolver adapts perfectly to the task, and, in contrast to the PowerMill, is therefore constantly supporting the lower tooling system. The HYPERTURN QuickMill variant is available only with chuck sizes of 45 and 65 mm. Of course, the HYPERTURN is also available as a pure 4-axis turning center in both sizes.

Good wasn't good enough for us
If our customers are satisfied, we still are not. No way! If you stop getting better, you stop being good, is the motto of EMCO’s development and production teams. It is also the reason behind the success of our brand over the years most of all in the industrial sector. Even in a well-conceived machine concept like the HYPERTURN series, there is always room for improvement. We don’t want to leave any opportunity unused. That’s why we have talked extensively with our customers. We have collected their experiences, analyzed them, and listened to their suggestions and requests. Only then did we start reworking the HYPERTURN series. The result is the HYPERTURN Series 2. A brand-new turning/milling center from EMCO with all the old qualities, plus new strengths.

Better Ergonomics
The most apparent change in the new HYPERTURN is the location of the control panel. On the Series 2, it has moved to the left side of the workspace. It has also been mounted on a pivot, so that the machine operator can position it as desired, depending on the location and lighting. The result is a better view of the workspace, making setup operations and tool changes much easier. The controls were also upgraded to the new OP10C operator panel. The original Siemens panel had a full alphanumeric keyboard. Programming the machine, even without the optional PC keyboard, is thus much simpler.

More Power
The new and even more efficient main spindle motor is also a positive change. With 29 or 21 kW (40 or 100% ED), its power characteristics have been optimized compared to its predecessor. At the same time, it requires less energy and has less power loss, with the same power and dynamic characteristics. The other drives were also replaced with current models, with increased dynamic characteristics. Together with all the drive components, this leads to additional reductions in cycle times, and therefore increased machine productivity. The speed of the powered tools was increased to 5,000 RPM, with the same goal. In the HYPERTURN PowerMill, the milling spindle speed has been increased to 10,000 RPM.

Better Safety and Convenience
The safety package has also been expanded, with several valuable features. The NC tailstock can be jogged with the guard doors open, using a foot pedal. The spindle can also be turned, as an option, with the guard doors open. Both new features mean not only increased operator safety, but also greater setup convenience and speed.

New Sheet Metal
As a final touch, we gave the HYPERTURN a new sheet metal housing. The machine now has a fully enclosed base. The telescoping covers in the workspace have been rearranged to improve chip flow and reduce maintenance. Finally, in the part holding fixture area, we installed new, overlapping covers that ensure absolute leak tightness in this critical location even for difficult coolant streams.
